My Vision of the Future of Coney Island: First Annual Student Writing Competition (56K)
Winners Will Receive Gift Packs and Tickets to Coney Island Attractions
Coney Island, March 14, 2008
Coney Island Development Corporation (CIDC) is sponsoring the First Annual Student Writing Competition for Coney Island students. Students in Grades One through Twelve are invited to submit an essay of up to 500 words on their vision for the future of Coney Island. The goal of the competition is to encourage the youth of Coney Island to think of themselves as community stakeholders and to promote awareness of their roles in the future of Coney Island. Submissions are being accepted now through April 18.
“As we continue our out reach to the various businesses, residents and community organizations to advance our plans to revitalize Coney Island and expand its core amusement district, it is important to let Coney Island’s youth know that they can and should play a role in shaping that future,” said CIDC President Lynn Kelly.
Entries will be divided into six categories: Grades 1 and 2; Grades 3 and 4; Grades 5 and 6; Grades 7 and 8; Grades 9 and 10; and Grades 11 and 12. Each entrant will receive a gift from CIDC. Winners in each category will also receive a Coney Island Gift Pack, including tickets to the Brooklyn Cyclones Games, New York Aquarium, Deno’s Wonder Wheel and Astroland. Winners will be announced at an awards presentation in May. Winning essays will be posted on the CIDC website. Entry forms are available from Coney Island Schools. Submissions should be mailed to Nicole Robinson-Etienne, CIDC, 110 William Street, NY, NY 10038, or e-mailed to netienne@thecidc.org. For more information, please call 212-312-3874.
