NYCEDC and NYC parks department commence restoration of historic B&B Carousell

March 24, 2008

Carousell experts and fine art movers arrived at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) in late March to delicately pack up Coney Island’s 89-year-old Bishoff & Brienstein (B&B) Carousell. The entire set of colorful antique horses and other Carousell components have been temporarily transferred to Marion, Ohio, where they will be meticulously restored by a team led by Todd Goings of Carousells & Carvings, Inc. (C&C), a nationally recognized expert in the field.

Coney Island Development Corporation is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the First Annual Student Writing Competition for students in Coney Island in grades 1 through 12. The goal of the competition is to encourage the youth of Coney Island to think of themselves as community stakeholders and to promote awareness of their roles in the future of Coney Island. Submissions of up to 500 words are being accepted now through April 18.

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), in cooperation with the Department of Parks and Recreation (Parks), has selected a consultant team headed by EDAW Inc. and Rockwell Group for design services for Steeplechase Plaza, a key component of CIDC's Strategic Plan.
