Coney Island’s Record-Breaking 2011 Season
Coney Island once again had a record-breaking year in 2011, with reports of more than 11 million visitors this past season and ridership at some amusements up 40%. With a calendar full of signature events and a mix of historic attractions, new rides, and on-going developments, The One and Only Coney is on the upswing.
Coney Island Greeters Announcement

We are excited to announce that this summer CIDC will be starting a Coney Island Greeters program three days a week, during Flicks on the Beach, Friday Night Fireworks and Saturday afternoons, from July 8th to August 29th. The Greeters are student volunteers from the Coney Island area who will be stationed in a tent on the boardwalk and will provide visitors with information about all of the events and attractions they can visit in Coney Island. They will be easily identified by their Greeter T-Shirts.

Coney Island Development Corporation Announces Workforce Outreach Efforts for 2011 Season

The CIDC, in coordination with local community based organizations and in cooperation with local elected representatives, is pleased to announce workforce outreach efforts for the 2011 season. Central Amusement International and Sodexo are now hiring for full- and part- time seasonal positions.

Coney Island Development Corporation Sponsors First Ever Children’s Halloween Parade

On Saturday, October 30th the first ever Coney Island Children’s Halloween Parade was brought to the Boardwalk. Over 700 creatively-costumed children participated in the event and a great time was had by all. Prizes were given for the best costume, and treats were given to all! A party at Luna Park added to the fun and the rides were fantastic as always.

The parade was sponsored by the Coney Island Development Corporation, in partnership with NYC Councilman Domenic M. Recchia, Jr., Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, State Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, State Senator Diane Savino, Luna Park, the South Brooklyn Youth Consortium, the New York Aquarium, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, Coney Island Generation Gap, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the New York City Police Department, Community Board 13, and The Shorefront Club. This Halloween tradition, in its inaugural year, was a great success and was another step closer toward being the best year-round entertainment destination in New York City!

Summer 2010 Amusement Operation in Coney Island Unveiled

This afternoon, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg joined local elected officials and community leaders to announce that the City has designated an operator for the amusements in Coney Island and that, beginning THIS SUMMER, Central Amusements International will bring more than 20 new state-of-the-art amusement rides will be installed at America's Original Playground.
